First choose the type of tableau using the radio buttons.

Next, obtain a tableau via the Domino Robinson-Schensted algorithm, either randomly or by entering a parameter.  To obtain a randomly-generated tableau, simply enter the size in the textbox labelled "n".  Then, click the Run button to the right of that box, or press Enter. 

Instead, you can enter a signed permutation (for example, 2 -5 3 6 -4 1) in the second textbox.  To do that, list the numbers of the signed permutation, separated by spaces.  Then, click the Run button to the right of that box, or press Enter. 

The purpose of this page is to demonstrate how to make a tableau with grid special.  This requires moving the tableau with grid through all its open unboxed cycles.  Each open unboxed cycle has a back square, marked in green, and a forward square, marked in purple.  If you click on one of those squares, the page will animate moving through the indicated cycle.  Once the animation is done, the cycle will be boxed.  You can now repeat this process by clicking on another green or purple square of the tableau.  When there are no purple or green colored squares left, your tableau with grid is special.  It may happen that your tableau is special to begin with, in which case no squares are marked.

When there are no colored squares present, you will see that every 2 x 2 box of the grid is either full, half full, or empty.  This is the definition of a tableau with grid being special.

You can alter the speed of the animation using the dropdown menu.

Pressing a button a second time, or a different button, will clear the previous result as it gives you a new result, as will pressing Enter while in a textbox.
